Treatment from an NHS dentist is free for children up to the age of 18 (and free to 19 for full-time students). At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough we believe you should bring your child to visit the dentist from an early age. Here’s why. . .
Children in the UK have one of the worst rates of tooth decay in the developed world. Taking your child to visit the dentist from an early age helps to prevent this. An NHS dentist can provide treatments such as fluoride varnish and fissure sealant, which helps to fight decay.
The team at our Slough dental practice will also take the time to explain the importance of cleaning your teeth properly in an age-appropriate, engaging manner. We are committed to preventative dentistry, stopping problems before they start. If children do have problems such as decay, the earlier they are spotted and treated the better.
At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough we understand that many patients fear the dentist. A bad childhood experience can contribute to this fear, and bringing your child to the practice as soon as their first teeth appear can help to prevent this.
Your child will quickly become acclimatised to the surgery environment and will soon start to recognise their NHS dentist as a friendly face they look forward to visiting every six months.
Orthodontic treatment is free to patients under 18 if an NHS dentist identifies a clinical need for that treatment. Early intervention can help orthodontic problems be corrected with minimally-invasive treatment.
At our Slough practice we recommend children come in with their parents and/or siblings as soon as their first teeth appear. By copying what their parent or sibling does, they will soon get used to letting the dentist examine their teeth.
