Scared of the dentist? How you can get the treatment you need
26th January 2016
Are you scared of the dentist? Then you are not alone. Many patients fear trips to the dental practice, but at Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough we do not think that this should be a barrier to getting the treatment you need and the smile you want. Here we look at what can be done to help nervous and phobic patients. . .

The team at our Slough dental practice are well aware that many patients are afraid of the dentist. Indeed, dental fear and phobia is the single biggest reason patients in the UK give for not seeking treatment.
Fear of the dentist can range from mild anxiety to full-blown phobia. At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough we are sympathetic to patients’ fears, and offer a wide range of options to help you conquer your nerves once and for all.
Causes of dental fear and phobia
Dental fear and phobia has myriad causes, from bad past experiences to specific fears such as needles or the sound of the drill. Some people cannot identify a specific trigger of their fear. At Moonlight Dental Surgery in Slough the first thing we will do is try to establish the cause of your fear to help us help you to address it.
Fear of needles
Lots of people are scared of needles. At our Slough dental practice our dentists use The Wand to deliver pain-free injections of anaesthetic in a controlled manner. The Wand eliminates the bee-sting effect of injections, and doesn’t even look like a needle – it’s shaped like a pen.
Sedation
Sedation has helped many patients who are afraid of the dentist to get treatment. At our Slough dental practice we offer two types of sedation: inhalation sedation (gas and air) or IV sedation, which involves an injection of sedative drugs.
