Our February 2024 Patient Newsletter….

29th February 2024

Hello There! We’re pleased to share our February newsletter. We hope you are all keeping well. In this months newsletter, we share advice about oral hygiene and oral health routines. We also share some information about our fantastic solution to a straighter smile. Additionally we’ve also included our usual updates, question of the month and team news!.
Making Oral Hygiene a Priority….
Here’s how you and your children can have healthy teeth and keep trips to the dentists stress-free;
Brush your teeth twice a dayBrush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.Brush your teeth with fluoride toothpaste twice a day for about 2 minutes to help keep your teeth and mouth healthy.

Plaque is a film of bacteria that coats your teeth if you don’t brush them properly. It contributes to gum disease and tooth decay.
Tooth brushing stops plaque building up. Try to make sure you clean every surface of all your teeth. When should I brush my teeth?
Brush your teeth for about 2 minutes last thing before you go to bed and on 1 other occasion every day. Your dentist or hygienist may give you more advice based on your own dental health and needs. How to brush your teeth. Make sure you clean all the surfaces of all your teeth, which should take about 2 minutes.
Remember to brush the inside surfaces, outside surfaces and the chewing surfaces of your teeth.
How to help children brush their teeth
Children need to be helped or supervised brushing their teeth until they’re at least 7 years old. Don’t rinse with water straight after toothbrushing After brushing, spit out any excess toothpaste. Don’t rinse your mouth immediately after brushing, as it’ll wash away the concentrated fluoride in the remaining toothpaste. Rinsing dilutes it and reduces its preventative effects.
Should I use mouthwash?
Using a mouthwash that contains fluoride can help prevent tooth decay, but don’t use mouthwash (even a fluoride one) straight after brushing your teeth or it’ll wash away the concentrated fluoride in the toothpaste left on your teeth.
Choose a different time to use mouthwash, such as after lunch. Don’t eat or drink for 30 minutes after using a fluoride mouthwash.
How to use dental floss
Flossing isn’t just for dislodging food wedged between your teeth. Regular flossing may also reduce gum disease and bad breath by removing plaque that forms along the gum line. It’s best to floss before brushing your teeth.T ake 30cm to 45cm of floss or dental tape and grasp it so you have 3cm or 4cm of floss taut between your hands. Slip the floss or dental tape between the teeth and into the area between your teeth and gums, as far as it’ll go. Floss with 8 to 10 strokes, up and down between each tooth, to dislodge food and plaque.
How to use interdental brushes
You can use interdental brushes or single-tufted brushes instead of flossing, especially if there are gaps between your teeth. The brush should fit snugly between the teeth. Never use toothpicks to remove trapped food from between your teeth as you may damage your gums, which could lead to an infection. Your dentist or hygienist can advise you on the best way to clean between your teeth. Floss between your teeth Floss or use an interdental brush every day to remove food, debris and plaque lodged between your teeth.
Cut down on sugar, and other lifestyle tips
Have a healthy lifestyle, including eating well, not smoking and limiting your alcohol and sugar intake. It’s good for your whole body, including your teeth, gums and mouth. Brush baby teeth as soon as they come through Start brushing a baby’s teeth as soon as they come through. Get children into a teeth-cleaning routine Help your child have healthy teeth for life by having a good dental health routine. Straighten crooked teeth with braces More and more teenagers (and some adults) are having braces and orthodontics to straighten their teeth.
Have regular dental check-ups
Have regular check-ups with your dentist. Do not put off going for a check-up. Detecting problems early can mean they’re easier to treat. If problems are not treated, they may lead to damage that’s harder, or even impossible, to repair. There are a wide range of dental treatments available. Some, such as fillings and root canal treatment, are readily available on the NHS.

Happy Birthday Catherine!
This month we are wishing our lovely Catherine a very Happy Birthday! We hope you all join us in wishing her many happy returns.
We Are Listening….
We want you to know that we take any kind of feedback seriously here at Moonlight Dental Surgery. Each month we take a look at all our patient reviews and feedback, we analyse the results and determine any outstanding trends or concerns that need attention.

In the past month we have received feedback regarding the temperature being too cold in the practice. We actioned this immediately and are happy to report that our heating is now in full working order and the practice is adequately warm!

We thank you for your patience and continued understanding.
Question of The Month….
Each month we publish a question that one of our patients has asked.
This month’s question was:Q: Do you have any new dentists starting?A: We have 2 new dentists starting in April! We will provide more information nearer the time.
Do You Know About Removable Tooth Straightening Aligners?….
Here at Moonlight Dental Surgery, we pride ourselves on changing lives, one smile at a time!

One of the biggest orthodontic advancements to date, Invisalign™ clear aligners are a series of removable aligners suited to the modern teen and adult.

The flexibility they offer, coupled with their aesthetically discreet design has resonated with the 7 million patients who have had treatment since its introduction to the market in 2000. Invisalign™ is generally used to treat mild & moderate to more serious issues.

What can you expect from treatment with Invisalign™
After an initial consultation to assess your suitability for Invisalign™, we can proceed to taking digital scans and images of your teeth, which will be used to design and create your custom-fitting BPA-free plastic aligners. Once we receive these back from the Invisalign™ lab, we can invite you back so you can try on your aligners. You will need to change your aligners every week at home and wear them for 22 hours each day. The remaining 2 hour gap each day will allow you to brush and eat as normal. Treatment with Invisalign™ can take up to 12 months, depending on the issues being treated.

What are the benefits of straightening your teeth with Invisalign™As they’re removable, you can stick to the same brushing and eating routine as you would normally, unlike in the case of fixed brace models. Many of us are now following specific diets such as keto, vegetarian and vegan – there’s no risk of any damage to your teeth eating these types of foods. Discreet design – your friends and family may not even notice you have the aligners in, as they have a transparent finish. With ClinCheck software, you can see what your smile will look like post-treatment, before you even start wearing the aligners. Treatment encompasses digital impressions, which are a more comfortable and accurate alternative to manual impressions.
