How your dentist can help if you’ve lost or broken a tooth

22nd December 2015

Breaking or losing a tooth is a dental emergency, which means you need to see a dentist as soon as possible. We know it’s a scary occurrence, but the most important thing is not to panic. Contact our Slough dental practice as soon as you can and one of our team will see you as soon as they can.

Moonlight Dental Practice in Slough offers a number of treatment options for patients with lost or broken teeth. If you need to see an emergency dentist, contact us on 01753 526301 and we will attempt to see you on the same day whenever possible.

Broken teeth

Teeth may be broken through accident, injury or decay. It’s common, for example, for those who play contact sports to break teeth if a fast-moving ball or opposition player comes into contact with their mouth. For that reason, dentists always recommend wearing a sports mouthguard for all contact sports. Trips, falls and car accidents also often result in broken teeth. They can even be broken by biting or chewing on a particularly hard piece of food, especially if they have been weakened by decay.

If you come into our Slough practice with a broken tooth, your dentist will carefully examine you and will go through the restorative options available.

Options include:

  • Veneers
  • Composite bonding
  • Crowns

Lost teeth

If you still have your lost tooth, place it in a clean container with a little milk or saliva, or keep it in your mouth next to your cheek. Depending on the condition of the tooth, your dentist may be able to place it back in the socket. Try not to touch the root of the tooth – pick it up by the crown (the top part).

If your tooth is unsalvageable or permanently lost, our Slough dental team have a number of options to replace missing teeth. These include:

  • Bridges
  • Dentures
  • Dental implants
